The Water
Would you drink this water? No? She wouldn’t either, given a choice.
Water – it is the very essence of life. It nourishes our bodies, cleans our skin and refreshes everything around us. But shockingly, globally every 20 seconds a child dies from a water-related disease. Contaminated water brings to a child diarrhea, parasites, and infectious disease, all of which kill more children around the world than AIDS, malaria and the measles combined.
The children of the Simanjiro in Tanzania face not only the challenge of finding clean water but finding any water, period. Currently, the Simanjiro is suffering from drought and a resulting shortage of food. Like most of East Africa, the Simanjiro is headed directly for a drought-induced famine.
This is where Africa’s Promise Village comes in.
Almost five hours west of Arusha, Tanzania, lies the parish of Emboreet/Simanjiro, run by father Peter Pinto, a missionary priest of the Divine Word Missionaries. From this parish Father Pinto serves the needs of some 19 Maasai villages, providing everything from care for the children to spiritual sustenance.
APV is partnering with Father Pinto to dig a large water well that will serve thousands of Maasai in the area. This well will provide clean water for drinking, the operation of a school and crop irrigation. To survey, dig, equip, operate and guard this large well for three years APV needs to raise $65,000.00. The digging of the well is set for September 2012, so it is imperative that we make a good start against our goal.
This is where you come in.
Little by little, working with us, we can fund this well in 2012. Please click on the donate button below and prayerfully consider a generous investment in this well. If you have any questions or would like to speak with us by email or phone, just click here.
The issue is simple, really. In the Simanjiro region of Tanzania there is plentiful water below ground but little to none above ground. We are going to change that and you can help by clicking on the donate button above.
Easy, no?
